Representatives from SHI Europe recently took part in meetings at the European Parliament in Brussels and the Japanese Embassy to discuss industry matters and strengthen collaborative relationships between European institutions and Japanese businesses.
The delegation, led by Shaun Dean, Senior Vice President of Sumitomo Heavy Industries and Managing Director of SHI Europe, met with key EU officials including Vice President Christel Schaldemose and Dutch MEP Tom Berendsen (CDA). Other SHI Europe representatives included Masazumi Suzuki, Deputy Managing Director; Joris Blommaerts, General Manager of HR; and Owain Betts, Corporate Communications Manager.
The meetings, organised by DUJAT (Dutch and Japanese Trade Federation), provided an opportunity for Japanese businesses operating in the Netherlands to engage directly with European policymakers on relevant industry matters affecting the region.
MEP Mr Berendsen shared valuable insights from his work on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, and the Committee on Transport and Tourism. These perspectives were particularly relevant for SHI, as several of its business divisions are actively involved in developing energy storage solutions and carbon capture technologies.
During discussions, Vice President Schaldemose addressed current market conditions and reaffirmed the strong bond between Europe and Japan within the global context. These conversations highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between European institutions and Japanese businesses.
"The meetings arranged by DUJAT have been instrumental in strengthening the collaborative relationship between European institutions and Japanese businesses," said Shaun Dean. "The insights shared by MEP Berendsen regarding energy and transport sectors align closely with SHI's strategic focus areas, particularly in sustainable technologies."
